The Mathers Museum hosts a number of events that are free, fun, and educational.


Family Craft Day: Flags and Banner Making

Saturday, September 13, 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Don't let the parade pass you by! Come make flags and banners for this year's Lotus World Music and Arts parade on October 4th. You'll learn how to incorporate colors and symbols of peace and harmony from different cultures around the world into your design. Presented in conjunction with the Lotus World Music & Arts Festival.


National Hispanic Heritage Month Reception
Monday, September 15, 4 to 6 p.m.
Kick off this year's celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month at the Mathers Museum of World Cultures. Presented in conjunction with La Casa/Latino Cultural Center.


Family Craft Day at Festival Latino (at Dunn Meadow)
Saturday, September 20, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Join Mathers Museum staff members at this year's Festival Latino in hands-on activities and crafts of Latin America. Presented in conjunction with La Casa/Latino Cultural Center.


Sounds of Brazil
Sunday, September 21, 2 to 4 p.m.
One of the most authentic and brilliant voices of Brazilian music in Bloomington, Valeria DeCastro returns to the Mathers Museum for a free performance. A vocalist, guitarist, and composer, DeCastro will present some of her original compositions along with a blend of Samba and Bossa Nova. Presented in conjunction with La Casa/Latino Cultural Center and the Brazilian Student Association.


Family Craft Day: Puppets and Masks
Saturday, September 27, 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Bring your friends and family to the Mathers Museum to create fantastical masks and help decorate the giant puppets that will be a highlight of this year's Lotus parade on October 4th! Presented in conjunction with the Lotus World Music & Arts Festival.
