Richard Cecil
Richard Cecil's fourth book of poems, TWENTY FIRST CENTURY BLUES, was published by Southern Illinois University Press in Fall 2004. He is the author of three previous collections of poetry, IN SEARCH OF THE GREAT DEAD (Southern Illinois University Press, 1999), ALCATRAZ (Purdue University Press, 1992), which was the recipient of the 1991 Verna Emery Poetry Award, and EINSTEIN'S BRAIN (University of Utah Press, 1986). About ALCATRAZ poet and critic Gerald Stern wrote, "These poems are powerful, moving and original. There is clarity, honesty and delightful quirkiness. Cecil captures -- he recaptures -- the human situation. He is just as shocking, radical and aggravating, in his way, as language poets, for instance, are in theirs. He makes it almost possible --let me say possible-- for a well-educated generalist to read poetry again." Cecil's poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Poetry, New England Review, Ploughshares, The Georgia Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Southern Review, Crab Orchard Review, River Styx, The Journal, Atlanta Review, and many other magazines.
