- 10-13 U.S. students primarily from IU and the University of Oregon
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
- 3 IU credits in "Society, Culture and Politics of West Africa" (ANTH E400 or REL R300)
- 2 IU credits of Field Practicum (AFRI L402)
- 2 IU credits of Wolof Language (LING A300)
- Excursions to historical and cultural sites, including Gorée Island; Ndiassane, Tivaouane, and Touba,
spiritual centers of the Qadiriya, Tijaniya, and Mouride Sufi orders respectively; Senegal River Valley.
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
- are a student at an accredited U.S. university who is making normal degree progress,
- are in at least your third full-time semester of college,
- have
approximately a 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA, and
- have completed two semesters of college-level French.
Preference given to applicants with relevant anthropology coursework or who are enrolled
in or have completed one course on Africa.Complete eligibility criteria and selection
criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures
of the Office of Overseas Study.
Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and
appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during
program period are not eligible.
HOUSING
- Ecole Normale Supérieure shared rooms in house/apartments; hotel in St. Louis (two nights);
village homestay (two nights)

- Fee paid to IU (includes tuition, housing, breakfasts, excursions, insurance)
Undergraduate
- Indiana resident students: $2,940
- Indiana Non-resident students and those from other institutions: $3,440
- University of Oregon students: $3,200 ($2,940 to IU, plus $250 U of O admin fee)
- AESOP students: $3,240
- Meals $550
- Airfare, books, other expenses $2250
Initial prepayment of $500 due March 17.
