The following are indicative milestones at 18, 36 and 54 months for IPCRES.
18 Months
- First two IPCRES Laboratories established
- IPCRES Economic Development Office established
- IPCRES marketing and awareness efforts well established as Indiana University is recognized as
a growing resource to information industries in Central Indiana
- First formal working relationships and memoranda of agreement between IPCRES and industry
in force and effect
- IPCRES Distinguished Research and Economic Development Advisory Board is established
and meeting with IPCRES regularly
- Local and state government links to IPCRES secured; cooperative and strategic relationships
with local and regional economic development organizations established
- IPCRES and ARTI seminars developed and occurring regularly for research scientists,
inventors, students, stakeholders and others
- At least one IPCRES Laboratory obtains 21st Century Research and Technology fund support
- ARTI IPCRES information technology transfer officer fully engaged with University and
private sector interests
- School of Informatics has 90 graduate students and over 400 undergraduates
- First students from School of Informatics involved in IPCRES research activities
- Eight or more IPCRES researchers with School of Informatics appointments
36 Months
- Three to four IPCRES Laboratories are established
- IPCRES begins to obtain significant external funding from government and industry
- School of Informatics directly engaged with private sector partners
- First licensing opportunities and new company start-ups emerging
- IPCRES economic development staff in conjunction with ARTI establishing a growing number
of collaborative arrangements with industry partners, fostering licensing agreements and new
company start-ups
- ARTI IPCRES Capital Seed Funds begin to be deployed and leveraged with private sector and
other public resources
- IPCRES attracts additional funding from the 21st Century Research and Technology Fund
(should it continue) as well as other public and private funding to assist the initiative
- Modest improvement in the State's ability to attract and retain technology professionals over
1999 figures
- School of Informatics has over 120 graduate students and over 900 undergraduates
- School of Informatics awards its first degrees to graduate students and undergraduate
transfer students
- Students from School of Informatics involved in IPCRES research activities in association
with theses and other advanced projects
- 16 or more IPCRES researchers with School of Informatics appointments
54 Months
- All six IPCRES Laboratories operating
- IPCRES influencing State economic development policy and funding for investment in
information technology
- Continuing growth in number of information technology companies and technology workers
in Indiana
- State retaining highest percentage of technology graduates in last five years
- The number of relationships and memoranda of agreement between IPCRES and industry
continues to increase
- The Indianapolis region begins to be nationally recognized as a significant emerging
technology region
- ARTI IPCRES Capital Seed Fund fosters increase in availability of private sector capital to
assist technology start-ups
- School of Informatics has over 160 graduate students and over 1400 undergraduates
