Kenneth Gros Louis, Indiana University

Kenneth R.R. Gros Louis is Vice President for Academic Affairs, Indiana University, and has served as Chancellor of Indiana University Bloomington since 1980. He received his Ph.D. in Medieval and Renaissance Literature from the University of Wisconsin and came to IU as an assistant professor in 1964. He became an associate professor of English and Comparative Literature in 1967, at which time he also began serving as Associate Chairman of the Comparative Literature department. He remained Associate Chairman until 1969. He received a Distinguished Teaching Award from Indiana University in 1970, and from 1970 to 1973, he served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1973 he became a full professor and began serving as Chairman of the English Department. From 1978 to 1980, he served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

He is a trustee of the North Central Association and a former member of the boards of several organizations, including The Associated Group, the Commission for Downtown Revitalization, Inc., and the Monroe County Library Association. He currently serves on the Academic Affairs Executive Council, National Association of University and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC). He is a member of the Modern Language Association, the American Association of University Professors, Christianity and Literature, University Club, Woodburn Guild, Friends of the Lilly Library, and the National Council Teachers of English. He also serves as the Indiana University Representative and Chair of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation.
