What is Sunflower?
Sunflower is a cooperative daycare, which means that parents are responsible for running Sunflower. We work several hours a week in exchange for low fees and a sense of community. Currently families are contributing 9 to 15 hours per week in shift duties alone (not including outside jobs, weekend clean-up, and meetings). Since IU takes care of the building and provides work-study employees, it is preferred that our members be affiliated with the University. However, when we have unfilled spaces members of the Bloomington community are also welcomed.
Ages and Number of Children
Sunflower is currently looking for children who are older than 12 months and younger than 38 months. However, we treat each application on a case by case basis. Currently, our children range from 14 to 21 months of age. Sunflower currently has a maximum full-time enrollment of eight children at one time. We prefer an adult to child ratio of one to three; however, at all times a ratio of at least one adult to four children is maintained
Sunflower is closed during holidays at IU, including breaks, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and the 4th of July. However, Sunflower may be open during a holiday upon agreement of all the members.
Current fees range from $150 to $250 per month per child, depending on the amount of hours that parents opt to work. A fee of $150 for instance means that parents will have to work at least 15 hours every week.
Our current hours are 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday. Sunflower's hours of operation are dependent upon the needs of our membership and members may vote to change the hours of availability.
Sunflower currently has openings for membership.
