Hatteberg receives Distinguished Dissertation Award
Congratulations to Sarah Hatteberg (IU PhD, 2015), whose dissertation, “Institutional Stress and Compromised Social Support in Collegiate Athletics: The Student-Athlete Experience,” has been selected as a winner of Indiana University Graduate School Distinguished Ph.D. Dissertation Award for 2016.
Okamoto receives ASA Book Award
Dina Okamoto’s book Asian American Panethnicity and Shifting Ethnic Boundaries is a recipient of the ASA Asian and Asian American Section Book Award.
Perry receives ASA Distinguished Article Award
Congratulations to Brea Perry, whose article (with Ed Morris) “Suspending Progress: Collateral Consequences of Exclusionary Punishment in Public Schools,” is the recipient of distinguished paper awards from two ASA sections.
The Grimshaw Lecture will be delivered by Shelley Correll, Professor of Sociology and the Barbara D. Finberg Director of Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Research on Gender at Stanford University. The lecture is scheduled for Friday, October 28 in the mid-afternoon.
This symposium will feature four distinguished scholars who will present their work on racial and ethnic stratification in schooling. Karolyn Tyson (University of North Carolina), Natasha Warikoo (Harvard Graduate School of Education), Ruth Lopez-Turley (Rice University), and Doug Downey (Ohio State) will each give hour-long talks and take part in a panel discussion. The event will take place from 10am-4:30pm on September 16, 2016 in the Frangipani Room in the Indiana Memorial Union, with a reception to follow.
On Thursday, April 28th, the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society (CRRES) will host a presentation by Carina Ray of Brandeis University at 4:00 pm in the Maple Room, Indiana Memorial Union.
