Important information about Ethno 2

Saving analyses. As a Java program running on the Internet, Ethno 2 is not allowed to create or modify files on your computer. So the program's system for saving analyses makes use of Copy and Paste instead of saving to files. A bug in Java limits the amount of text that can be copied or pasted. This size limit becomes a problem only when analyzing narratives involving hundreds of events.

Ethno 2 will allow you to save a study in parts when you reach the size limit.

Updating the version of Java running in your browser - via the Sun Corporation link above - helps with the size problem, because newer versions of Java allow more text to be transferred via the clipboard.

Printing the Ethno Chart. Old versions of Java do not allow programs running on the Internet to send jobs to printers. Current versions of Java do allow printing. If you are running Ethno 2 for current Java, then you will find a Print function in Ethno 2, and you can print publication-quality charts. If you are using Ethno 2 for old Java, then you do not have a Print function. However, see the Help on charts in Ethno 2 for instructions on how to get a crude print-out.

Documentation and Help. Publications regarding event structure analysis are available on the ESA References Page. The Help system for Ethno 2 begins with an Introduction that provides hyperlinks to all sections.
