National Rankings
SPEA Bloomington ranks third nationally in the 2004U.S. News & World Report ratings of schools of public affairs. Four specialties in Bloomington were ranked in the top 10: Environmental Policy and Management, Nonprofit Management, Public Finance and Budgeting, and Public Management/Administration. Nonprofit Management and Criminal Justice Policy management at Indianapolis was also ranked among the top ten programs.

Research Centers
The Environmental Science Research Center promotes excellence in environmental science through seminars, discussion groups, and workshops.

The National Institute for Global Environmental Change, Midwestern Center, supports the Department of Energy in global environmental change, energy policy, and energy-related environmental risks.

The Institute for Development Strategies focuses on economic development research of new and emerging economies of mature regions.

The Community Research Institute provides assistance for the economic, social, and public sector development of northeast Indiana.

The Indiana Conflict Resolution Institute designs, evaluates, and facilitates the use of alternative means of conflict resolution and mediation programs.

The Institute for Family and Social Responsibility, the clearinghouse for the National Child Support Enforcement Association, addresses U.S. welfare reform.

The Bowen Research Center focuses on health policy and health services, emphasizing primary and rural health care, disease prevention and health promotion, health care financing, work force issues, and cost containment.

The Institute for Applied Community Research offers professional research services to public and nonprofit agencies.

The Transportation Research Center focuses on transportation safety, urban public transit, transport management, transport regulatory policy.

The Center for Urban Policy and the Environment improves public policy discourse and decision-making through service, scholarly publications, and applied research.

The Great Lakes Center for Public Affairs and Administration conducts research and provides technical services to governmental units and other institutions in northwest Indiana.
