Course Description
E148 T'ai Chi Ch'uan is the introduction to the soft, slow movements of
T'ai Chi Ch'uan, one of the most popular forms of exercise in China today.
In this class students will gain a basic understanding and appreciation
for the physical and philosophical aspects of the Chinese martial art
of T'ai Chi Ch'uan. During this semester, students will learn the first
section of William C.C.Chen's Yang Style T'ai Chi Ch'uan Solo Form as
well as the history, philosophy and cultural context of T'ai Chi Ch'uan
E148 provides insight into T'ai Chi Ch'uan's unique techniques for health,
meditation, strategy and self-defense. E148 seeks to develop in the students
a positive attitude toward the practice of T'ai Chi Ch'uan and the martial
arts.
