We will accept between 10 and 15 students each year.

Students will be considered for the program at all three audition dates.

May entering freshmen audition for the mainstage season?
Yes, all students may audition for the mainstage season.

Do you offer scholarships for incoming freshmen?
The Department of Theatre and Drama offers scholarships for established students.

Do you offer summer work?
The Brown County Playhouse produces one musical and three plays in a summer and fall season. In addition, Premiere Musicals: Developing Musical Theatre at Indiana University workshops a new musical culminating in three public performances. We do highly encourage our students to audition for summer work at other theatres.

Have your graduates been successful?
Though there are no guarantees, graduates of the Department of Theatre and Drama have appeared on Broadway, national and international tours, regional theatres from coast to coast and around the world. Currently, Nicole Parker (Graduate of 2000 and MadTV star) is in the new Martin Short musical Fame Becomes Me.

When will I know if I have been accepted into the program?
We will notify those accepted no later than two weeks after the final audition in March.

If I am not accepted in the BFA program, may I be considered for the BA degree program with a major in Theatre and Drama?
Of course. You should have already applied with the university through the Admissions Office which will notify you of your acceptance. There will be no audition requirement for this program.

Are there any elimination points during the BFA program?
You will be expected to follow standard academic levels of progression since the B.F.A. exists within the College of Arts and Sciences. There are both probationary and dismissal standards clarified in the Bulletin of the College of Arts and Sciences. Also, in order to pursue upper divisional musical theatre performance courses, there will be an evaluation of work completed and an audition to gain admittance into the second level musical theatre workshop at the end of the sophomore year.

Will I have any academic advising within the BFA program?
The Head of the Musical Theatre program will serve as your specific program advisor. You will also have general degree advising support from the Department's Academic Advisor.

Will there be any production performance guarantees for participants in this program?
You will audition for all productions.

Will it be possible to move to the standard BA major in Theatre and Drama or even another major at a later time?
Although we do not expect this to happen, changing to another major is clearly possible as long as academic standards are met.

Will I be allowed to do production work outside the Department?
You will be expected to give first priority to the musical theatre opportunities of the Department.
