Stage Management Course Descriptions
T229 Stage Management I (3 cr.) P: T100 and T125. Explore the role and function of the stage manager in theatrical production. Provide the basic skills to begin work in the field of stage management. Emphasis on organization, documentation, and dissemination of information.
T329 Stage Management II (3 cr.) P: T229. An examination of the organizational and logistical aspects of productions of musical events from the perspective of production and stage management. Examining case studies in musical theatre, ballet, modern dance, opera, and concerts, students gain insight into management strategies and develop critical thinking skills.
T428 Production and Events Management (3 cr.) P: T229 or consent of instructor. Discussion of the skills necessary to produce and manage theatrical productions and the application of those skills to large events.
Additional topics courses offered in the past:
- Economics of Scenery Rental: A course in which the students learned the economics and logistics of scenery storage and rental while solving a real problem for Edmonton Opera. Where could the company relocate it's scenery stock to maximize rental income. Students researched and presented options via PowerPoint presentation to the Board of Trustees of Edmonton Opera.
- Managing Spectacle: A course in which the managment issues and concerns of spectacle production was discussed and explored. Students then traveled to Las Vegas for three days to shadow and observe stage managers at Phantom: The Las Vegas Experience, Blue Man Group, La Reve, and the Cirque du Soleil productions of KA, Love, O, Mystere, and Zumanity.
