Independent Projects in the Theatre and Drama Facilities
Student Directors may request the following spaces for workshop projects:
AD125, A200, A207, UT Stage, TA 101, or TA 102A
Each space has unique abilities. Check the Workshop Application for detailed information about each venue.
There are four types of workshop projects which will be considered. They are listed here in priority order.
- Plays produced as first year MFA directing projects. These plays are open only to an invited audience and may not be advertised or reviewed. No admission may be charged. These projects are scheduled and approved by the Production Manager in consultation with the T543 professor and the Associate Chairperson.
- Workshops to fulfill the T543 class requirement. These plays are open only to an invited audience and may not be advertised or reviewed. No admission may be charged. These projects are approved and scheduled by the Production Manager in consultation with the T543 professor and the Associate Chairperson.
- A play produced by University Players. These plays are open only to an invited audience and may not be advertised or reviewed. No admission may be charged. These projects are approved and scheduled by the Production Manager in consultation with the Associate Chairperson.
- Workshops presented by qualified graduate or undergraduate Theatre and Drama majors. These projects are approved and scheduled by the Production Manager in consultation with the Associate Chairperson. These plays are open only to an invited audience and may not be advertised or reviewed. No admission may be charged.
Dates for Workshops are determined at the beginning of each semester.
Casting is open only to registered students of Indiana University , Bloomington .
How to Request a Workshop Space
The following procedure is to be followed for ALL workshop applicants:
- Select a play
- Find a faculty advisor
- Read the Workshop Guidelines
- Complete the application form and return it, with the appropriate signatures, to the Production Manager.
The Production Manager will collect the applications.
Copyright Laws and Publicity for Independent Workshops
With the exception of the Ruth N. Halls and Wells-Metz season productions, the Department of Theatre and Drama will not pay royalties for the use of any script. The conditions under which the project production can be mounted without paying royalities are as follows:
- These projects are a class exercise.
- No admission can be charged.
- There can be no publicity. The audience must be composed of class members and invited guests.
- There can be no reviews or production oriented articles in any media.
- The following notice must appear in all programs and internal announcements for independent workshops: This production is a class project and may not be reported on in any media .
Taping of Performances
Copyright laws prohibit the videotaping, filming, or recording of performances. So- DON'T record any rehearsal or performance.
