Patrice Pavis, Professor

In 1998, the Department of Theatre and Drama did a production of Marivauxs The Triumph of Love which coincided with Pavis visit. While on campus, Pavis delivered a lecture entitled Classic Productions on Contemporary Stages: Marivaux and The Triumph of Love. He also gave a lecture on actor training titled Teaching Acting in Universities. Both lectures were sponsored by the Ralph L. Collins Memorial Lecture Fund.

Patrice Pavis is a leading Marivaux scholar and Professor of Theatre at the University of Paris VIII-Saint-Denis. In 1986, Dr. Pavis won the Prix Georges Jamati for Marivaux a lepreuve de la scene, his study of the theatre, plays, and mise en scene of Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux. His topics of research and writing have included theatre semiology and interculturalism in the theatre.
