IU Employee Assistance Program (IUEAP)Today's world can be stressful at times. Balancing the needs of work, home, and family can be difficult. Most often stress is temporary, but sometimes ongoing stress can interfere with everyday well-being. The IU EAP was established to provide professional help in regaining perspective and balance when day-to-day activities are interrupted by stress. IUEAP services are always confidential. Some examples of concerns for which an individual may seek EAP services are:
Obtaining IUEAP services starts with a phone call: 888-234-8327. Trained professionals, who are master's-certified, licensed clinicians, are available by phone 24 hours a day to discuss what services may be needed and covered under IUEAP. An EAP professional will make an initial assessment by listening to the caller's concerns, asking questions, and helping to determine how IUEAP may help. Depending on the need, the EAP professional may refer to either an EAP network licensed clinician for face-to-face problem-solving visits or to another local agency or resource. Referrals, except for emergencies, are made during regular business hours. Not all problems are appropriate for EAP. For problems that go beyond day-to-day stress (for example, major depression or substance addiction), a referral may be made to a mental health professional for treatment. Those with a known addiction may want to seek care directly from a substance abuse professional. Although IUEAP professionals do not provide mental health counseling over the phone, they will always assess and respond to potential emergencies, such as suicide or physical abuse. All full-time Academic and Staff employees of Indiana University and their household members are eligible to use the services of the IUEAP. All fees are paid by Indiana University. There is no cost to employees for IUEAP services.
All contacts with the IUEAP are guaranteed absolute confidentiality. Names of individuals using the IUEAP services are not available to Indiana University.
