I've never played before. I don't know how to throw a Frisbee.
That's okay. Nobody else in the league knew how to play when they first
started either! Even the most experienced player can still remember what
it was like when they first started. So don't worry. All of your
teammates will be eager to help you get started or learn to throw. It's a
positive environment filled with plenty of other new players who will
learn alongside you.
What are the rules? How exactly do I play?
There are official rules for the game of Ultimate that cover everything
to the last detail. They can be a bit lengthy, but we recommend you at
least skim through them. They are available on-line at www.upa.org/ultimate/rules/rules.shtml. For our rec league,
we tend to stick to just the basic Ten Simple Rules of Ultimate. They'll get
you started and your teammates will help you with the rest.
Summer Rec League games will have two 40 minute halves with a 5 minute
half-time.
What is the Summer League coed rule?
The overall goal of the league is equitable playing time regardless of
gender. Teams are required to play at least 4 men and 2 women at all
times.
What if I can't play every game on the schedule?
Your team roster should have about 15 players on it and the game
requires only 7 at a time. We assume that not everyone will be able to
make every game. Also, not everyone can play the whole game without a
break. That is why we have subs on your team. If you think you'll miss a
game, that's okay, just let us know on your registration form in the
"comments" section and tell your team captain so s/he can make sure there
will always be enough players.
I've got a friend with whom I want to play. Is there any way to be
on the same team?
You may list your friend's name as your "buddy" on the online
registration form. The only way we can ensure that you and your buddy
will be on the same team is if this condition is met: You list
only one person as your buddy, and that person lists
only you as their buddy.
If you want to be on a team with more than one person, please list that
information in the "comments" section of registration. We will do our
best to accomodate but can not guarantee anything.
How will I know what team I am on?
After the registration deadline, the league will choose teams from all
of the eligible players. After that, the league and/or your new captain
will contact you to let you know what team you are on. This information
will also be posted on the web site.
How do I find out what team I play against and when?
This web site will be an important resource for you during the season.
On it you will find pages with the schedule of games and field assignments.
I have a friend coming from out of town. Can s/he play with us?
No guests or others not signed up for the league will be allowed to play.
Having guest players has created complications in the past. If we let
your friend play, we will have to let every friend play, and this is not
fair to those who registered for the league in a timely fashion.
Is it possible that the games will be cancelled?
Yes. We do have a built-in rain day at the end of our league, so we do have some leeway.
In the event of a severe thunderstorm where lightning is
spotted, games will cease immediately. In the event of bad weather, Karst
Farm Park may close the fields to protect them from damage. It is always
a good idea to call the Soccer/Ultimate hotline 349-2126 after 3pm on
game day.
I don't have a car. Does that mean I can't play out at
Karst?
Although it depends on your circumstances, in almost every case someone
on your team (or another team) who lives nearby will be willing to give
you a ride. Our Ultimate community is pretty friendly and usually willing
to help out. Don't let lack of transportation stop you from signing up.
