Judy Garland on Capitol
March 21, 2008
This
week on Afterglow well feature a recent collection
of Judy Garlands late-1950s and early-1960s Capitol
albums. Though Garland has sometimes been branded as a showbiz
belter, well be highlighting some of the torch ballads
that she recorded for Capitol with arrangers like Gordon
Jenkins and Nelson Riddle. Well also hear music from
trumpeter Till Bronner, singer Abbey Lincoln, pianist Bill
Charlap, and much more, including reissues from Duke Ellington
and Nina Simone.
Afterglow airs every Friday evening at 10:05 p.m.
EST on WFIU. Broadcasts are made available for listening
at any time the following week in the Afterglow
archives.
