Songs of the Season: Autumn
September 28, 2007
This
week on Afterglow its our annual songs-of-the-season
ode to autumn, with music for the fall from Blossom Dearie,
Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Nat King Cole, Julie London, and
many other classic performers of jazz and American popular
song. Well also feature the rarely-heard 1950 Indianapolis
Symphony Orchestras performance of Hoagy Carmichaels
Brown County in Autumn, an extended musical
work that the Hoosier songwriter penned in tribute to the
southern Indiana artists colony. (Special thanks to
the
Archives of Traditional Music at Indiana University
for use of this recording.) Other Indiana artists heard
on the program include Terre Hautes Claude Thornhill
and Bloomingtons Al Cobine. Songs of the Season:
Autumn airs Friday, September 28 at 10:05 p.m. EST
on WFIU.
Afterglow airs every Friday evening at 10:05 p.m.
EST on WFIU. Broadcasts are made available for listening
