WFIU Presents
Afterglow
Billy Mitchell/Al Grey
11/17/2006
This
week on Afterglow we'll be featuring some of the dynamic
small-group recordings that tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell and
trombonist Al Grey made in the early 1960s. Former members of the
late-1950s Count Basie big band, Mitchell and Grey recorded a compelling
mix of standards, originals, and pieces by artists such as Randy
Weston and Melba Liston. We'll
also hear music from Dakota Staton, Gloria Lynne, Pat Metheny with
Brad Mehldau, Lou Rawls, Keith Jarrett, and more. Afterglow airs
at 10:05 p.m. EST this evening on WFIU.
