WFIU Presents
Afterglow
The Hoagy Carmichael Songbook
11/24/2006
This
week on Afterglow we inaugurate a new annual tradition with
The Hoagy Carmichael Songbook. Hoagy Carmichael was
born in Bloomington, Indiana on November 22, 1899; with his birthday
so close to Thanksgiving, well devote the Friday show after
the holiday entirely to his music every year on Afterglow.
This years inaugural Hoagy broadcast will include recordings
of Carmichaels music from Anita ODay, Lou Rawls, Bob
Brookmeyer, Susannah McCorkle, Al Cobine, Art Pepper, and Bix Beiderbecke,
in addition to the rarely-heard 1958 Carmichael LP Music by Hoagy
Carmichael, the last full-length album that Hoagy ever recorded.
The Hoagy Carmichael Songbook airs Friday, November
23 at 10:05 p.m. EST on WFIU. You can learn more about Carmichael
and listen to a previous WFIU documentary about him on Afterglows
Hoagy page.
