SPEAK YOUR MIND!
Visit Our Archives!
Do you have the feeling that, as average citizens,
we have no voice in matters that concern our lives, culture, or
government? Well, now is YOUR chance to speak out on issues that
affect us.
WFIU's Speak Your Mind! broadcasts responsible comment and
opinion by residents of the stations' listening area. The commentaries
are short, no more than two minutes long, and deal with issues of
general interest and importance. The purpose of Speak Your Mind!
is to stimulate listeners' thinking through the constructive exchange
of ideas and perspectives.
WFIU encourages your participation. If you wish, station personnel
will help you convey your points effectively. And we will help you
record your presentation for an appealing on-air presentation. This
assistance is free of charge.
Speak Your Mind! welcomes a wide range of topics. Topics
may be of global concern, though preference goes to those relating
to community events and concerns. To assure that Speak Your Mind!
serves our listeners and that WFIU satisfies its service obligations
to the public interest, we follow these guidelines:
- WFIU reviews Speak Your Mind! material for content, tone,
writing, and voicing.
- WFIU will not reject a commentary solely because it is controversial,
but may edit scripts and tapes for broadcast.
- WFIU determines acceptance, scheduling, and frequency of broadcast.
- Each script must be directed toward the public, not an individual.
You may contradict an individual's comments or views, but you
may not personally attack the individual.
- The script must begin with, "This is [your name],"
and conclude with "For Speak Your Mind, this is [your
name]". WFIU broadcasts a statement after your commentary,
reminding listeners that the comments expressed do not represent
the views of the station.
- WFIU makes available to the public all transcripts of commentaries
we air.
- WFIU also follows broader guidelines for controversial topics,
religious, or commercial-like material, and presentation of political
comment during election times.
- Prior to scheduling your taping, please send us your script
for review.
