About the Project Exhibits


 

Adam Herbert became the 17th president of Indiana University on August 1, 2003. He is professor of public administration in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and professor of political science in the College of Arts and Sciences.

On April 15, 2004, Indiana University will inaugurate Adam W. Herbert as its seventeenth president. The inauguration of a president is a seminal event in the life of a university. Consequently, IU faculty, staff, students, alumni, state officials, community members, and academic leaders from other institutions will come together to celebrate the investiture of the new president. In his inaugural address, President Herbert will outline his vision for Indiana University.

The Black Experience at Indiana University: Realizing The Dream 1816 - 2002


 

Clarence W. Boone Sr. earned his bachelor's degree in anatomy and physiology in 1953 and his M.D. degree in 1956, both from Indiana University. Boone worked as a physician in Gary Indiana, and he retired in 1999. He served on IU Northwest’s scholarship committee, two chancellor search committees, and on the chancellor advisory committee. In 1998 he was awarded the Chancellor's Medallion from IU Northwest. Boone is also a member of the board of directors of the IU Foundation, and he has served on the IU School of Medicine's Dean's Council. He is also a co-founder and former national president of the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club. He is a former president of the IU Alumni Association from 1997 to 1998, and winner of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award. Boone is also the second black trustee nominated to the IU Board of Trustees in 2004. Among other activities, Boone is also very active in the Gary Community. He served on the Gary Housing Authority board of directors, and was a member of the State Department of Public Instruction committee on reorganization. In 2000 he was inducted into the Gary Steel City Hall of Fame.chool of Public and Environmental Affairs and professor of political science in the College of Arts and Sciences.
