Connection Between Research and Teaching. These awards recognize six
individuals “for their outstanding contributions to research and for
using their knowledge to contribute to the enhanced education of
undergraduates.” One of the recipients is Nicholas J. Turro, chemistry
professor at Columbia University.

Wireless Sites. The number of UITS-supported secure Wi-Fi (IEEE
802.11b) sites keeps increasing. In the Chemistry Building at IUB, all
three large classrooms (122, 033, 001), the Library (003), the Molecular
Structure Center (A423A), and room 206 now have 802.11b access points. An

Expected September, 2002: Panasonic AG-DVX100
miniDV Cinema Camera. This exciting new camcorder, with an expected
street price of about $3,000, is the first sub-$100,000 camcorder
capable of recording in cinema-style 24 frames/sec progressive-scan
mode, in addition to standard NTSC interlaced-scan format.
