FAQ

Q: How do I sign-up for evening assistance at an ASC location?
A: Same-day sign-ups begin at 6:00 pm, and tutoring begins at 7:00 pm. While sometimes students are able to walk in and receive help right away in the evenings, it is often a good idea to sign up, particularly during busy times of the semester (midterms, major exams, etc).

Q: How long are the tutorials, and how many can I use per evening?
A: For math help, students can sign-up for either the 7-9 p.m. session or the 9-11 p.m. session, and they can only sign up for one math session per evening per ASC location. For writing help, students can select either a 25-minute or a 50-minute session, with tutorials beginning on the hour or half-hour (7:00, 7:30, 8:00, etc). Again, students can only sign-up for one WTS tutorial per ASC location per evening.

Q: What if all of the spots are taken?
A: If all available spots for a certain type of tutoring (math, writing) are full at one ASC location, the receptionist can call the other locations to see if a spot is available elsewhere, thus insuring that a student does not make an unnecessary trip to another location.

Q: What if I am interested in private tutoring in mathematics (or another subject)?
A: Many departments have lists of private tutors, some available online. The "Directory of IUB Academic Resources" link on the left sidebar of this web page has a list of many of the most popular sites (math, business, sciences). You can also email the ASC at acadsupp@indiana.edu for more information.
