Indiana University, which has a special connection with the Philippines through our students and alumni, expresses its deepest sympathy for the loss of precious human life endured by your country. Our hearts and prayers will be with you all as you rebuild your lives and land, and we will do everything we can to support you in this crucial and heartbreaking time.

Typhoon Haiyan: Teach In/Forum and Fundraiser

In response to the devastating typhoon that killed thousands of Filipinos and left massive destruction and homelessness, the Indiana University Asian Culture Center with support from Office of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs, College of Arts and Sciences, Dhar India Studies Program, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Department of Geological Sciences and IU Kelley School of Business will be hosting a forum and fundraiser to express support for and solidarity with the victims of the typhoon, and to empower and inspire those willing to help support the relief efforts. The "Haiyan Typhoon Teach In/Forum and Fundraiser" will provide multiple perspectives on understanding the disaster and its impact.
The speakers will include faculty members from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, the departments of communication and culture, history and geological science in the College of Arts and Sciences, Purdue University , president of the Filipino Student Association, and a member of the Filipino community in Bloomington. The forum will also address topics such as disaster recovery media coverage, history and ways the public can help.
Faculty members who will be presenting include:

· Les Lenkowsky, IU professor of practice and clinical professor of philanthropic studies in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs
· Nick Cullather, IU professor of history
· Stephanie DeBoer, IU assistant professor of communication and culture
· Daniel Aldrich, Purdue University associate professor of political science
There will be donation jars provided by the American Red Cross that will be available at the forum for cash and check donations. Donations can be made to American Red Cross. Please indicate “Philippine Haiyan Disaster Relief” in the memo. Donated gift certificates will also be for available for sale. All proceeds will go to American Red Cross.
