Rodrigo Penna-Firme is a PhD candidate, working in the Brazilian Atlantic Rain Forest. He is interested in human-environmental relations, the intersection between development and nature conservation and the social costs of the establishment of nature protected areas on ethnic identity and the livelihoods of the rural poor.

Research Interests: People and parks, impact of global capitalism on small communities, poverty-environment relations, grassroots movements, ethnicity and environmental discourse, remote sensing/GIS applied to land use/cover change, forest ecology, human ecology, ecological anthropology, political ecology.
