AAADS Web Photo Use Guidelines

In general, the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies takes photographs for use only as part of the department's ongoing intellectual engagement and outreach projects and not for commercial purposes.

Photographs on the AAADS web site may not be re-posted or published in any form by other parties without the written consent of the department.

The department does not seek the permission of people attending AAADS events before posting event photos on its web site, but usually the those people will not be identified in captions. However, in certain circumstances (such as when a person is giving or receiving an award, making a presentation, teaching, or otherwise in the spotlight), both photos and captions with names may be used online.

People who attend AAADS events, public or private, who prefer that their photograph not be displayed on the web site should make that request in writing, and the department will make all reasonable efforts to remove or not use such photos. (So that all photos can be used, those not wishing their photo to be online should avoid the camera when photos are being taken at events.)

While AAADS is grateful to everyone who contributes photographs for departmental use, it cannot accept photos for payment. Upon request, general credit will be given to photographers on the Photo Gallery page rather than with individual photos.
