Motl Isaakovich Derbaremdiker was born in 1920 in Berdychiv. He was 16 years old when his family moved to Kyiv.  Derbaremdiker is a descendant of Rabbi Levi Yitskhok of Berdichev.

Motl attended kheyder and then Yiddish secular school #13 when the religious school was closed in 1927. After seven grades, he went to a technical school. He received his diploma on June 20, 1941; two days before the war broke out.

Debaremdiker worked as the director of a Chemistry institute at a scientific research institute. He also taught at the Sunday school at the Kyiv Great Choral Synagogue, which he himself had set up.
