Mira Moiseevna Pasik was born in 1933 in Nikolaev. She grew up on a Jewish kolkhoz (collective farm), Yefengar, where she says that everybody spoke Yiddish and even the Russians on the kolkhoz went to the Yiddish school. The collective farm celebrated all the Jewish holidays and even tried to keep kosher.
