Moyshe (Mikhail) Aronovich Vainshelboim was born in 1927 in Berdychiv. His mother was named Feyge, and his father, Arn, was a painter born in Berdychiv. His father was imprisoned during World War I. Moyshe went to a Jewish school. 

Vainshelboim's mother and sister were among the Berdychiv Jews massacred and buried in the mass grave during World War II. His father was aslo shot but he survived and together with Mikhail escaped the Germans. After the war, they returned to Berdychiv. Mikhail received a piece of land to farm after the war. He served in the Red Army in Latvia for four and a half years in the 1950s. Vainshelboim marrried Sara, nee Katz, born in 1930.
