RCAP Co-Director Beth Meyerson finds that Indiana Community Health Centers are not screening for HIV or STDs to standard of care
Community Health Centers (CHCs) have cared for uninsured and underinsured people since the 1960s. These clinical settings are on center stage because of the current U.S. Healthcare reform effort that highlights their importance as the primary health care portal for millions of Americans. Preventive health care is part of this focus, especially for sexual health.
National studies have found that CHCs are comparable to primary care practices on several health measures including improving screening rates and patient outcomes. However, CHCs in rural states such as Indiana, have not been well studied. Indiana has 40 CHCs with over 134 clinic sites throughout the state.
