David Villanueva started studying Aikido in the summer of 2000 when he joined the IU Aikido Club. He became a student of Tim Sexton Sensei (2 dan), Laura Knudsen Sensei (1 dan) and now studies with the new Chief Instructor of the IU Aikido Club,
Guy Haskell Sensei (5th dan).
He has received the shodan rank from Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan in September of 2005.

David received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and his Master of Music degree from the Indiana University School of Music, where he currently works as the Administrative Director of the Choral Conducting Department.
