The best place to park is on 8th or 9th Streets, or the north-south streets crossing these streets (check the signs--it is residential permit parking only during the day, but should be fine for our practice times) due west of the HPER building. You can also park in the pay lots associated with the Indiana Memorial Union, if you prefer. (If you buy anything in the IMU and get your parking ticket stamped, you then pay a much reduced parking fee.) Parking in IU permit-only spots (e.g., "A" permits) usually results in expensive tickets.
The HPER building is located near the corner of 7th Street and Woodlawn Avenue. To find the dojo most easily, enter on the west side of the building (the side that is facing the angle permit park spots and the "IMU #2" pay parking lot, also facing Woodlawn Avenue (across the pay lot). Climb the stairs/hill to reach the building. You will then see three entrances. The leftmost entrance looks quite different from the two right entrances. Do not enter there. Rather, climb another short set of stairs to reach the leftmost of two nearly identical entrances on the west side.
When you enter, you should see old arched woodwork
and old dark-colored tilework with designs. The women's locker
room will be to your left; the men's locker room will be to your
right. (If you see modern tilework, you have entered the wrong
entrance--exit, turn left, and take the first entrance to your
left. If you see old tilework but only the men's locker room,
you can still climb those stairs and find our dojo across several
volleyball/basketball courts.) Anyone may use these locker rooms
and shower facilities (bring your own towel and lock, or bring
your bag up to the dojo--there is also a small changing area there).
From these locker room doors, go up one floor and lock for "the
fort" (HPER 293A) in gym 293, the location of our dojo (a
section walled off in a large volleyball/basketball court area).
Our dojo can also be reached by climbing the stairs near the Supervisors'
Station in Wildermuth.
