The Annotated Text Processor (ATP)

Back Sort-Order Interface

Sort orders and character weighting for complex fonts and sets of special characters can make it possible to create very effective and powerful filtering and searching operations. ATP's Sort Order Utility makes it possible to define sort orders that include single characters and character strings—thus for Northwest Coast languages, it is possible to include glottalized character sequences as single phonemes while searching and sorting.

Like the Customized Keyboard Utility, the Sort Order Utility uses very simple clicking sequences to make assignments. The list box at the left shows that all the i characters—upper and lower case, with and without primary and secondary accents—have been given the same weight, while all the i-nasal characters have been weighted to follow as a separate phoneme.
