Ascend IUB's History
Ascend Indiana University Bloomington is founded in 2010, as the local chapter of Ascend, the premier nation-wide professional organization dedicated to enabling its members, business partners and the community to leverage the leadership and global business potential of Pan-Asians. ASCEND provides lifelong support to our members' careers and personal growth, with events and programs benefiting undergraduate members and executive level alumni alike.
VP: Linus Quah
External Committee develops and maintains strong relationships with partner firms and non-profit organizations. We provide invaluable networking and professional development opportunities to Ascend members. Past events that we have organized include PwC Chinese Sourcing Initiative information session and Cummins information session.
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate outstanding communication skills, event planning skills, the willingness to take initiatives and most importantly a high level of commitment.
VP: Crystal Jiang
The finance committee plans budgets for various Ascend events. We acquire funding from presentations to receive funding from different organizations, attract long-term and short-term sponsorships from local businesses, and plan fundraising events. We are looking for professional candidates who have good interpersonal, presentations skills, and innovative ideas.
Director duties include, creating and running a fundraising event, managing Student Organization Account and reimbursements, collaborating with other committees to help budget the events, and maintaining accurate records of Ascend financials.
VP: Yejoon (Anna) Kim
The Internal Committee utilizes in-school resources to host social and professional events. As one of the few co-sponsors of UCSO, we work with UCSO and other Kelley organizations to host collaboration events. An Internal director must know how to brainstorm ideas for an event, prepare an agenda, handle logistics of the event, and execute an event as a host. Time management skills, responsibility, and writing/speaking communication skills are required because hosting events may be time consuming fast-paced, and highly dependent upon preceding processes.
Weekly meetings are held to go over upcoming events. On the weeks without events, we meet to hang out and have fun.

Ascend IT Committee aims at applying updated technologies to enhance Ascend’s work effectiveness and efficiency. Mainly, IT Committee takes in charge of managing Ascend Database, maintaining official website, and delivering latest IT knowledge to Ascend members in IT Workshop. Ascend IT Committee encourages everyone who has interests in IT to master specific IT skills, and we would like to share experiences to people who want to pursue a career related to IT.
IT committee director roles include:
Website/App Maintenance: Maintain Ascend official website and update upcoming events online; IS/Informatics/CS major preferred, if you have any portfolio, please bring it to the interview.
Database Management: Manage the collection, use and quality of our data for current member and alumni; Enable to analyze data and visualize data in different software
IT Workshop: Connect with professors and alumni on a professional level for invitation to be the guest speakers for IT Workshop; Topics include 3D, Photoshop, InDesign, Tableau, Video editing, Statistical Software etc.
VP: Hongyu Zhao
The marketing committee is a new developing committee within Ascend, aimed to assess, develop, and implement the promotion of Ascend and its events, through various channels including: social media, newsletters to members and alumni, various creatives, and market research/analysis. Marketing committee is looking for talented and motivated individuals with creativity, dedication, and vision to help the committee grow.
Marketing committee is looking for 4 directors to be in charge of the following:
1) Social media management, 2) professional media outreach, 3) design/inter-committee liaison, and 4) member/alumni outreach. Most directors will be also responsible for leading the planning and executing one Ascend related PR event, and all directors will be expected to contribute to research/analysis. Please state your preference(s) of duties in your statement of interest.
VP: Sibolin Wang
Professional Development Committee provides a series of well-structured courses to Ascend members through two programs, Exclusive Development Program and Case Workshop. Exclusive Development Program helps Ascend members build necessary professionalism to land a job in the US. Each semester, Exclusive Development Program covers a wide range of topics including business fundamentals, resume, networking, interview, and presentation. Case Workshop provides a platform for Ascend members to build problem-solving and teamwork skills. Each semester, Case Workshop breaks down into three comprehensive modules containing curriculums, a self-control case competition within Ascend, and a company-held case competition.
Before each semester starts, EDP directors are responsible for tailoring the current curriculums to meet the requirements of Ascend members and inviting guest speakers to teach curriculums if needed. During a semester, directors are obliged to facilitate each curriculum session and are required to teach at least one curriculum to Ascend members.
Case Workshop Director
Before each semester starts, CW directors are responsible for tailoring the current curriculums to meet the requirements of Ascend members, planning a self-control case competition, and exploring a potential company-held case competition. When a semester starts, directors are responsible for teaching the curriculums to Ascend members. After finishing the curriculums, each director is required to help one team accomplish the self-control case competition. Finally, each director is required to be an advisor for one team participating in the company-held case competition.

Performance Improvement Committee is designed in every way to bring the best opportunities and experiences to all Ascenders. The exclusive Mentor & Mentee Program aims to strengthening mentee’s professional abilities in many aspects, including but not limited to, resume building, career fair tips, interview preparation, and internship suggestions. We initiate exciting new projects every semester to facilitate and encourage the Ascend spirit and culture. We collect and analyze event feedbacks to further improve the quality and planning of Ascend activities and policies. We want to help both the people and the organization improve in every possible way. We are the in-house consulting committee for Ascend.
As for director’s application, we are looking for candidates who demonstrates strong communication and organization skills, willingness to take initiatives, responsibility towards their role and tasks, and creativity.
