Idalene (Idie) Kesner is the Frank P. Popoff Professor of Strategic Management at IU's Kelley School of Business and the chairperson of the MBA program. She teaches extensively in the school's MBA program.
Professor's Kesner's research is in the areas of corporate board, executive succession, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. She has published articles in numerous journals including Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Organization Science, Academy of Management Executive, Business Horizons, and Harvard Business Review.
Professor Kesner received her MBA and Ph.D. from Indiana University, where as an associate instructor she won an undergraduate teaching award. From 1983-1995, Professor Kesner taught in the University of North Carolina undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. programs. She won the school's MBA teaching award (1989), and 2 Executive Education teaching awards (1990, 1993). Since joining IU in 1995, Professor Kesner has won 13 teaching awards for her work in the MBA program and 1 teaching award for executive education. She teaches various courses including strategic management, crisis management, change management and management consulting.
Professor Kesner has taught in more than 100 different executive education programs, and she has served as a consultant for many different firms working on strategic and board related issues. Currently, she is a director for one Canadian firm and one nonprofit organization.
Professor Kesner is the recipient of numerous service awards including
one from the governor of North Carolina for the establishment of a
program for high school students interested in studying business.
Professor Kesner has served in key executive positions for the Business
Policy & Strategy Division of the Academy of Management including Program
Chair, Division Chair, and Treasurer, and she is a member of the
Strategic Management Society.
