Welcome to the Arabic Language Learning and Translation Annex (ALLTA). Created in 2007 as a major initiative of the Islamic Studies program, ALLTA is housed in Weatherly Hall 113 at Indiana University Bloomington. ALLTA is to be the first stage in a larger project designed to provide the user with open-access, easy to use, and substantive educational materials aimed at providing information about the Muslim world that is produced by leading scholars in the fields of linguistics, history, religious studies, anthropology, pedagogy, political science, and other disciplines. ALLTA is currently developing a range of web-based Tutorials that are designed to be a resource for a wide range of users, including:
- Members of the General Public Interested in the Middle East and Muslim World
- Corporate and Civic Groups Who Want Specific Training on Arabic or the many Cultures of the Middle East and Muslim World
- K-12 Teachers Who Need Curricular Resources for Teaching about the Middle East and Muslim World
- K-12 and University Students Interested in the Middle East and Muslim World
- Teachers of Arabic at the K-12 and University Levels
- Students of Arabic with a Casual Interest in the Language
- Students of Arabic already Enrolled in Arabic Courses who Need Supplemental Materials
- Advanced Users of Arabic Who Require Intensive Training in Classical and Modern Arabic Grammar
- Advanced Users of Arabic Who Need to Sharpen Translation Skills of Classical and Modern Arabic Texts
We are currently developing tutorials in Arabic Language Pedagogy, Introductory Arabic, Arabic Grammar, Arabic Translation, and the Cultures of the Middle East and Muslim World. Many of these pages are still under development. If you would like to review the materials we would appreciate your feedbackby submitting a questionnaire that will help us develop future additions to the ALLTA initiative. Please note: we are still in an early phase of development and some links may not be functional yet.
