Philanthropy

The women of Alpha Chi Omega’s Alpha Mu chapter recognize the importance of community service and giving. We are constantly involved with the activities of local nonprofit organizations and philanthropy events because we feel that our service is just one way in which we can give back to the community that has given us so much.

In the past, we have hosted the AXO Volleyball classic, raising thousands of dollars to support the Middle Way House, a local domestic violence and rape crisis center. This year our chapter organized a new Fall philanthropy event, “Shedding the Light” on domestic violence awareness. For this project, we lit luminaries in front of all the Greek houses to symbolize our community’s dedication to shedding light on the issue of domestic abuse, an issue that affects millions of women worldwide. As women blessed with the bond of sisterhood, we are also blessed with the bond of womanhood. This bond that we share with women everywhere is what encourages the members of Alpha Chi Omega nationwide to support women who have been victimized and abused.

Apart from hosting our own philanthropy events, we strongly encourage our members to participate in the philanthropy events of other Greek houses as well. We are involved with Zeta Tau Alpha's BMOC for breast cancer research, Phi Sigma Kappa's Relay for Life which also helps with cancer research, Alpha Phi's fundraiser for Alzheimer's, and more. We are also avid supporters of Indiana University Dance Marathon, a 36-hr, non-stop dance marathon that raises money for the Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Our chapter members dedicate many hours of their time to fundraising for this cause, and for the opportunity to stand 36 hours straight for the children, some who will never be able to stand themselves.

The members of Alpha Chi Omega are extremely proud of our involvement in our community. Whether we are volunteering at a local homeless shelter, participating in a campus blood drive, or helping another chapter with its philanthropy events, we want our community to know that they can count on us to give back. Here at AXO, we are dedicated to the cultivation of philanthropic young women.
