"Revisiting the Holidays"

"Contemplating Christmas: where is the spirit of love?"

"Eveningside, it's dark already at seven p.m. How I do love and miss the long days of Summer. But no, tonight grows colder and darker, threatens sleet...

"Now, TV thankfully off, I listen to Nova Stella, local medieval ensemble Altramar's 1996 release, songs from a medieval Italian Christmas. The clarity and beauty of this CD momentarily soothes my annoynaces. Instead, I am charmed by Angela Mariani's deep, timeless resonance as she sings 13th century chant; I am reminded that despite this holiday's current supplication to the Almighty God Dollar, in centuries past, in derivation, this feast of sharing has ties to many other religions...The celebration of thi sseason has archetypal connection to shifting shadows, Light to Dark, Dark to Light...

"I hear Nova Stella's simple intonations and discover my own balance."
