"Transporting, magical, from the very first bar, this is the best early music ensemble I've heard since I fell in love with Sequentia. Gorgeous vocals (really, they don't come any better), commanding presence, thoughtful and effective phrasing, masterful playing on a panoply of lovely instruments designed and built as a matched set by luthier Timothy Johnson: vielle, rebec, romanesque and gothic harp and gittern.
"Saint Francis wrote the texts [sic], but the melodies were selected by Altramar from contemporaneous sources -- as formed here, they are emotional and enchanting and often have the joyous meter shifts and asymmetrical barring of eccentric Italian folk dances. The powerful texts are provided in Italian and line-by-line translation. --JP"
