We want plates in other states. Do you?

FORM: TELL US YOU'RE INTERESTED

What do Indiana, Tennessee and New York have in common?
Maybe only this one thing: IU license plates! IU Alumni Plate - click for larger image

    No plate in your state?
Don't worry; you can still ride with pride! The IU Alumni Collection offers an IU Alumni license plate holder for your vehicle. Buy one today at www.alumni.indiana.edu/merch.

We think we should try to get specialty IU plates going in more states. Don't you? In most states where such plates are allowed at all, they need some assurances as to a minimum number of participants. So that's what this page is for -- to ask how many of you would be likely to buy an IU plate in the states listed here, and to report the interest so far.

Illinois says no, but New Jersey says yes. More details from Maryland to be posted shortly.

These states are next likely candidates; they allow out-of-state special interest plates, but need a minimum number of participants.

    • Maryland, 100 mimimum
    • North Carolina, 300 mimimum
    • Virginia, 500 minimum

Same thing with California, though it's hard to say our program holds as much promise, given their very high mimimum

    • California, 5000 minimum

This state is considering our wish to have IU plates:

    • Wisconsin -- reviewing its stance on the matter very soon

If you live in any of the states listed above, and think you would buy an IU plate if one were available, please let us know by completing this form

    Next level:
We'll be talking to the following states next: Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. As soon as we learn a program is possible in these states, we'll be asking for names to add to a list.

    No hope:
It won't happen in these states: Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Illinois.

The state of Illinois says no - The Motor Vehicles department and Secretary of State's office have confirmed that specialty plates in Illinois will only be legislated for in-state schools. We thank all of our IU supporters that took the time to sign up on our site. We will maintain this list of more than 800 names and continue to provide information on our Web site should we learn of any changes or legislation that might alter this decision.
