Ladies First

The Indiana University Alumni Association sponsors IU's premier women's a cappella group, Ladies First.

The group delights members of the IU family across the country during their live performances at Alumni Association events.

HISTORY
It all began in 1999 with a simple question. "Why doesn't IU have a women's a cappella group?" Natalie Perkins, Ladies First co-founder and director, asked Walter Shilanskas, then director of Straight No Chaser. Walter referred Natalie to Sarah Gibson, who had been e-mailing him the same question for several months. Together, the three worked at spreading the word about auditions for "IU's first female a cappella group." After grueling auditions and rehearsals, the group made their first performance as the opening act for Straight No Chaser on April 28, 1999. The IU Alumni Association began its sponsorship of Ladies First the following fall and they continue to travel throughout the country delighting audiences with their soulful renditions and dynamic stage presence.
