Susan Kirkman, IU AMID alum 1982, named President of Brooks Institute, Santa Barbara, California
Susan Kirkman, Indiana University 1982 masters graduate, has accepted a position as the President of Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara/Ventura, California. Brooks Institute offers Masters, bachelors and certificate programs in film, visual journalism, commercial photography and graphic arts programs. Prior to her arrival at Brooks Institute, she served as the Vice President of Academics Affairs and Dean of Education for many years at Harrington College of Design in Chicago, IL.
A long-time interior design educator and practitioner, Sue has served as the program director, department chair and faculty member at several universities and colleges. She is active in, and a professional member of, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), as well as several related trade organizations.
Sue graduated from Indiana University in 1982 with a master’s degree in interior design and has owned her own consulting firm since 1983, practicing her craft in different parts of the United States. She has extensive experience in academic affairs including strategic planning, curriculum assessment, faculty development, student relations and advising, diversity, retention and placement.
