Travel, Housing, Meal Plan & Stipends

The REU in Animal Behavior is hosted by Indiana University (IU), located in the heart of Bloomington, Indiana, about one hour south of Indianapolis (4 hours from Chicago, 3 hours from St. Louis). IU is a Big Ten University with a total student enrollment of about 38,000. Bloomington is a city of 65,000 inhabitants with an unusually rich cultural life, including excellent live music, art, and restaurants. It is nestled in the hilly, wooded countryside of southern Indiana near three local lakes, state parks, the Hoosier National Forest, and a variety of outdoor activities including biking, boating, caving, camping and hiking. A bus system is available to take you anywhere you want to go.

With the help of the National Science Foundation, the Animal Behavior REU program provides each student with a stipend scheduled to be $4000 for the 10-week program, a single occupancy room in the IU residence halls (Ashton-Weatherby complex), a basic meal plan, and travel expenses.
