S P I N A L C O R D M O T O R N E U R O N S This is a photograph of a small group of motor neurons within the spinal cord (in cross-section). The white in the middle is the neurons, with their cell bodies, dendrites, and axons. The area in the center of the spinal cord is called "grey matter" and is where spinal cord neurons are located. The lighter blue surrounding the neurons is part of the spinal cord called "white matter", where the axons coming from or going to the brain are located. Photograph courtesy Dr. Dale Sengelaub. |
