The CISAB Animal Behavior Lab is available to provide (1) training/advice; (2) space/equipment; and (3) sample analysis to all CISAB members. Use by non-CISAB members is permitted on a case-by-case basis.
The lab is open weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm. The lab director (Rose Stewart) is available during this time to answer questions about new/ongoing projects.
Researchers may work in the lab at other times, provided they have obtained approval from the lab director.
All users must attend an IU Lab Safety Orientation and sign a lab use agreement prior to using the facility. Users should familiarize themselves with the location of all safety equipment. Emergency procedure info is on the refrigerator door.
All solutions prepared in the CISAB lab must be documented in the “Lab Solutions” notebook. Everything (even water!) must be properly labeled with the full chemical name, date and your initials.
Users are asked to maintain a clean and organized lab environment! Please refill your tip boxes and throw out old samples and expired reagents/kits/tubes. Notify the lab director if you have hazardous waste. If you’re not sure if it can go in the regular trash or down the drain, please ask!!
You are welcome to use an empty drawer in the lab to store supplies/lab notebooks- just be sure to label it with your full name.
We have very limited fridge and freezer space- please keep your items consolidated and throw anything out that is no longer needed.
Please report any equipment problems to Rose immediately. If you notice a supply is running low, let her know or write it on the board on the -20 freezer.
All users will be billed for their lab usage on a bimonthly basis, unless other arrangements are made. Please keep track of the number of samples and types of analyses you are performing to aid in this process.
If equipment or the lab director’s time is in high demand, priority will be given to those working on a specific grant/grant proposal, faculty collaboration or graduate research project (part of the thesis/dissertation). Thanks for your understanding!
