Animal Behavior Conference (ABC)

CISAB sponsors an annual, one-day Animal Behavior Conference in the spring of each academic year. Attended by over 100 undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research scientists and faculty from within and outside the IU community, the conference offers an outstanding opportunity for researchers to meet one and another and present their latest research findings to their colleagues. Participants in recent conferences include those representing colleges and universities across North America including Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Washington, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, New York, Florida and Mexico. The conference consists of ~20 research talks across multiple sessions as well as an afternoon poster session, and culminates with a Plenary Lecture by a highly accomplished researcher in the field of animal behavior and an Evening reception open to all participants. Previous plenary lectures have included: Lauren V. Ritters, Carl D. Hopkins, Michael J. Ryan, Marlene Zuk, Irv Zucker and in '09, Darcy Kelly. Participants interested in attending our 2010 Conference can register online. In addition, programs from previous conference are also posted, so feel free to check these out.

One important function of the conference is to affirm the students' view of themselves as part of a larger research community. This event also offers an opportunity for informal interaction and exchange of ideas at the Opening Reception the night before the conference and the Closing Reception that follows the conference. Another important effect is to increase mutual appreciation of interdisciplinary work, and to set high expectations and standards.
