Sean Dougherty email: SEPDOUGH advisor: Cook year: 97 |
Research Interests:
Sean P. Dougherty is a PhD candidate in physical anthropology. Although he is a bioanthropologist by training, he generally prefers the more pretentious title: biohistorian. His interests include human morbidity and mortality, historical demography, mortuary practices, human sacrifice, and other things for which he will likely not be paid. Often a victim of happenstance and opportunity, he has found himself excavating and analyzing human skeletal remains in remote parts of Belize, Syria, and, most recently, Egypt. Ironically, he holds a Master's in Classical Studies, which has prepared him for none of this. He is currently living in Milwaukee, theoretically at work on his dissertation, a study of injury-related morbidity and recidivism among a 19th century almshouse cemetery population. |

Todd Foster email: TLFOSTER advisor: Jamison year: 04 |
Research Interests: human growth and development, human variation and adaptation, human sexuality and reproduction, Pacific and Eastern Asian populations Current Research Focus: The United States has detonated over 67 nuclear weapons in the Marshallese Islands and the effects of fallout have caused many problems for these islanders. Relocation to different islands have caused political and social problems that continue to reflect them, even into the new millenium. Exposure to radioactive fallout has caused first, second, and possibly even third generation biological effects to general reproduction and growth and development. I also am an active member of PFLAG and am very interested in the homosexual/heterosexual dichotomy. |

Research Interests: primatology, non-human primate behavioral ecology, conservation, paelontology, evolution of bipedalism I'm interested in the evolution of bipedalism, the evolution of primate social systems and compartive positional behavior. I'm also interested in evolutionary biology and animal behavior. I'm preparing a study of postional behavior, comparing bonobos and chimpanzees. |

Julienne Rutherford
Goehl email: JNRUTHER advisor: Hunt/Toth year: 96 |
Research Interests: marmosets, reproduction, maternal investment, physiology, growth and development, primate evolution, sibling competition I'm currently conducting my dissertation research at the Southwest National Primate Research Center in San Antonio. I am interested in the structure and function of the marmoset monkey placenta. Marmosets are small South American primates who exhibit an unusual suite of reproductive features, including twinning and cooperative infant care. In captivity, marmosets produce triplets which are generally smaller at birth than are twins. It is this variation in litter size and birthweight that informs my research on placental structure, as I am interested in how differences in the intrauterine environment can lead to the programming of differences in postnatal growth. I'm also interested in applying aspects of parent-offspring conflict theory to the relationship between fetal and placental measures. |
