About the UAS


The preamble of our constitution best describes what it is that we do, "The Purpose and Aims of the Group: establish communication between faculty, students and other parties interested in anthropology, provide information to anthropology students". We hope to do this in a way that represents all four of the subfields equally.

Purpose and Aims of the Group:

Article I
The group shall be known as the Undergraduate Anthropology Soceity, (UAS).

Article II
There shall be no size limitations, (to the membership), and the only requirments to be a member are to be a student or staff member of IU and an interest in anthropology.

Article III
The descision making body of the UAS, the board of directors, shall all be equal in power and authority. The board of directors shall be composed of four to seven serious anthropology students. The term of office for a director shall be for one semester and then thier office shall either be renewed or another member will be nominated to take their place by the former board of directors. In the absence of one or more members at a meeting, the remaining officers will assume their obligations.

Article IV
The board of directors will meet weekly on a chosen day and time. Open meetings will occur bi-weekly.

Article V
New amendments can be adopted by the group, if the majority of the board consents. Duties of the board members include attending meetings, planning events and activities that promote the study of anthropology, and following through with agreed upon obligations and responsibilities. Members shall be free to state opinions and ideas and shall be respected by other members of the UAS. UAS shall collect dues for planned events based on projected attendence and cost.
