Mary Suzanne Savage Field Research Scholarship

We are pleased to announce a competitive scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students pursuing majors in Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology. Awards of $750 to $1000 will be available to undergraduates to fund off-campus archaeological field research in the Americas. Funds can be used toward fees and expenses associated with attending a field school or participating in a field research project directed by a faculty member or advanced graduate student.

Mary Suzanne Savage (1938-2010) was an anthropologist, professor, and expert in adult education. She received her BA and MS degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, and conducted postgraduate work in archaeology at IU. She directed many archaeological digs in Indiana, and lived for a summer with a Navajo family. Her work and appreciation of cultural diversity led her to travel extensively, including trips to Mexico, Scandinavia, Russia, Japan, Thailand, and Morocco. Ms. Savage’s sister, Sally Rudolph, is establishing this gift in her memory, to help students with financial hardships participate in field research.
